Florida Energy Residential HVAC Rebate Program

The State of Florida announces the Florida Energy Star Residential HVAC Rebate Program Beginning Monday, August 30, 2010 and Ending December 31, 2010.

The State of Florida has set aside $15 million for Florida home owners to get rebates for replacing their old central air conditioners. Each homeowner who takes advantage of the program is eligible for a $1500 rebate from the state. The program has enough money to fulfill between 10,000 and 11, 300 requests. The money will be dispersed on a first come first serve basis. That means that even though the promotion will be in effect until the end of the year, if the fund is depleted the State of Florida will stop giving refunds. It is recommended that is you plan on taking advantage of this rebate, do so early.

The criteria for getting the Florida Energy Star Residential HVAC rebate for a central air conditioner are:

  1. The new central air conditioners and air source heat pumps meet the Federal Energy Tax Credits criteria and geothermal heat pumps that meet ENERGY STAR® criteria are eligible for the Florida ENERGY STAR residential HVAC rebate.
  2. The homeowner hire either a Florida Class 1 rater, a State of Florida licensed Mechanical Contractor, or a recognized test and balance agent to perform a duct test on your home to document that you have no more than 15 percent leakage to the outside. It is highly recommended that you have your duct systems repaired prior to having the duct test so that you only have to pay the duct tester for one visit and test.
