As diesel gets older, a fine sediment and gum forms in the diesel… The fine sediment and gum will block filters, leading to fuel starvation and the engine stopping, According to Exxon Oil, “Diesel can be stored 6-12 months without significant degradation. Storage for longer periods can be accomplished through the use of periodic filtrations (polishing)”.

Diesel contamination comes from 3 sources:

1. Water-results injection failure, corrosion, growth of bacteria and fungus and clogged filters.
2. Inorganic Debris-causes abrasion that results in wear and tear in the generator engine
3. Organic Debris-These contaminants account for approximately 95% of foreign material in diesel fuel. The presence of organic debris causes clogged filters, tank and engine sludge, carbon deposits, Injector and lift pump failure and corrosion, Excessive emissions & fuel consumption and contaminated engine oil.

Annual fuel cleaning or polishing along with regular maintenance can protect against emergency generator failure.

Greens Energy Service Fuel Cleaning Process

1. Remove sludge and free water from the bottom of the tank
2. Suspend sludge and sentiment that has built up on tank shell surfaces with high velocity pumps and fuel
3. Remove suspended sludge, contamination and 99% of emulsified water
4. Filter fuel to 3 microns; removing all contamination
5. Remove all waste following EPA guidelines
